I know boys stereotypically love sports & balls, but… is this normal?

My 2 1/2 year old is OBSESSED. I’ve always thought so but when his daycare teacher used the same word, it confirmed it in my mind. He plays with other toys: musical instruments, cars, trains, planes, cooking toys, building toys, etc, etc, etc but he CONSTANTLY has a golf club, baseball bat, football, tennis racket, basketball, or soccer ball in his hands. Not only that, but he has the perfect stance and poise for every single sport.
He talks about sports ALL of the time.
Half of the time, he even refuses to wear clothes that aren’t sports related.
We watch & play sports as much as the average family, I suppose, but no more than normal. Also, we don’t encourage (or discourage) this so I’m not sure where he’s getting it from. He’s always loved balls but he’s had ‘this’ kind of love for sports since he was around 20 months old.
Am I overreacting by using the word obsessed or is this normal behavior for a 2 1/2 year old boy?

my boy was into rocks, collecting them at first, filling his pockets with them till his pants would threaten falling down. when he got older [teens] he got out the best of the collection and researched what they were etc etc. he is a geologist now, 28 and successful.
his son is 3, loves the dogs and cats and all the other zoo collection at my house, he holds each one and want to know about it, I see a zoologist or vet coming up..so, dont worry, “obsession” as a young child may be a foretelling of a future career.
